Acton Conservation Seeks Volunteers to Clear Ice House Pond
Acton Conservation is asking residents to help pull invasive water chestnuts from Ice House Pond on Aug. 15, the most concrete piece of Town Hall news to surface as the town also previews its September Harvest Festival and area libraries and parks fill out the week's calendar.
TOWN HALL
Acton Conservation is hosting a community water chestnut removal day at Ice House Pond on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are needed to help clear the invasive aquatic plant, which can choke waterways and crowd out native species if left unchecked.
The town is also previewing the Acton Harvest Festival, planned for Sunday, Sept. 20, at noon, an event the town says will celebrate Acton's agricultural community.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The NARA Park Summer Concert Series continues its Kids Night lineup on Tuesday, Aug. 11, with the Tanglewood Marionettes presenting "The Dragon King," a free family show at the park.
COMING UP
The town's committee calendar is active this week: the Green Advisory Board, Finance Committee and Historic District Commission all meet Tuesday, Aug. 11, followed by the Cemetery Commission on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and the Acton 250 Committee's History Subcommittee on Friday, Aug. 14. Acton Conservation's water chestnut removal at Ice House Pond follows on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon.
